How Upper and Lower Crosshead Guide Plates Work

In the mud pump power end, the crosshead moves back and forth between the upper and lower guide surfaces. The guide plates provide controlled running surfaces for this reciprocating movement and help maintain the position and alignment of the crosshead within the power end.

The upper and lower guide plates form part of the same guiding system, but they are separate components manufactured to their respective positions and dimensional requirements. Depending on the mud pump design, their geometry, mounting arrangement and adjustment method may differ.

Correct fit and alignment are important because wear or dimensional deviation at the guide surfaces can affect crosshead movement and the alignment of connected power end components.
