Mud Pump Crosshead
The crosshead is a vital component of the mud pump power end. It converts the rotary motion of the crankshaft (via the connecting rod) into linear reciprocating motion, then transmits power to the piston through the extension rod to drive the fluid end.
Structure & Components
A typical crosshead assembly consists of:
One end of the crosshead is fixed to the extension rod, while the other end is connected to the small end of the connecting rod via the crosshead pin. The crosshead slides between the upper and lower guide plates, ensuring a perfectly straight motion. This precise alignment prevents sideloading on the piston rod and packing, thus avoiding premature wear.

Maintenance Tips
The crosshead pin bearings and guide shoes are subject to wear under long-term high-load operation. Regular inspection of the fit clearance between the crosshead and guide plates, as well as the wear condition of the pin bearings, is recommended. Timely maintenance or replacement ensures smooth pump operation and extends the overall service life of the mud pump.
