The crosshead is a working component of the mud pump power end. Its machined body connects the reciprocating drive components and is guided as the pump operates. Because the crosshead runs in relation to other power-end parts, its critical geometry cannot be treated in isolation.

In the assembly shown here, the bronze-colored sliding surface is divided into multiple fitted segments around the crosshead body. The photographs clearly show the segment boundaries and fastening locations. Whether individual segments are replaceable in service depends on the applicable crosshead design and maintenance specification.

The segmented arrangement makes the shoe interfaces, fastening locations and fitted profile important manufacturing details. Each segment has to correspond with the crosshead body and with the geometry defined for the completed assembly. The purpose of the bronze shoes is to provide the specified sliding interface between the crosshead and its guide system; the exact material grade, segment design and acceptance criteria must come from the applicable drawing or customer specification.
FH does not apply one unsupported clearance or material statement to every mud pump design. During quotation, we ask the buyer to identify the pump model and provide the drawing, part number or technical specification so that the bronze-shoe configuration can be reviewed correctly.

The machining route for a specific order depends on the drawing and supplied condition of the workpiece. Tooling, setup sequence and in-process checks are selected for the geometry that must be produced. Machining an individual bronze segment is only part of the job. The completed crosshead has to be evaluated as an assembly. The photographs show the segmented bronze shoes fitted to the machined body, including the visible segment boundaries, fastening holes and relationship between the bronze surface and adjacent crosshead features.

For an OEM project, shoe fit should be controlled by the specified drawing and inspection plan. Relevant characteristics may include the fitted profile, the location of segment interfaces, alignment with reference features and other drawing-defined dimensions. The exact characteristics and tolerances vary by design, so FH confirms them against the customer’s documentation rather than publishing a universal value.
If the project includes an existing assembly, send clear photographs of the wear pattern and mating guide condition together with the drawing or part information. That context helps the technical review, although it does not replace defined acceptance criteria.

Equipment of this type is also commonly described as a portable CMM. To distinguish it from a fixed bridge-type coordinate measuring machine, this page uses the more precise term portable coordinate measuring arm.
Inspection scope is agreed for the order. Depending on the drawing and purchase requirements, deliverables can be discussed during quotation, including dimensional records, material documentation or other specified quality documents. Only documentation included in the confirmed order should be treated as part of the supply.
