Mud pump valves and seats are critical wear components in the fluid end of a drilling mud pump. During each pumping cycle, the valve opens and closes against the valve seat while exposed to repeated impact, pressure cycles and abrasive drilling fluid.
Reliable replacement therefore depends on more than external dimensions. Valve body construction, material selection, hardened surfaces, machining accuracy and correct matching among the valve body, sealing insert and valve seat all influence how the assembly fits and functions.

The mud pump valve body is the moving structural component of the valve system. It supports the replaceable sealing insert and guides the opening and closing movement of the valve.
The valve seat is the stationary mating component installed in the fluid end. When the valve closes, the insert contacts the corresponding seat surface to control the direction of fluid flow.

A friction-welded valve body is manufactured from separately prepared sections that are joined through a controlled friction-welding process.
This established construction remains a practical option for many standard replacement applications. Its manufacturing quality depends on correct component preparation, joint alignment, welding-process control and subsequent machining.
The welded interface is the key structural feature that distinguishes this construction from a one-piece forged valve body.
FH Petroleum’s patented one-piece forged valve body design provides an integral alternative to conventional friction-welded construction. The principal valve body structure is produced from a single forged blank before subsequent machining and required processing.
Because the principal sections are formed as one integral structure, the design does not contain the friction-welded interface found between the main sections of conventional friction-welded construction.
FH continues to manufacture both friction-welded and one-piece forged valve bodies according to the required valve design, drawing, application and customer requirements.
Final selection should still be based on the customer’s drawing, pump requirements and operating conditions.
The transition between the central stem area and the main body is an important identifying feature of the one-piece design.
In a friction-welded valve body, separately manufactured sections meet at a welded interface. In the one-piece forged version, the corresponding transition belongs to the same integral forged blank.

FH valve bodies can be manufactured from 20CrMnTi alloy steel according to the applicable product drawing and manufacturing specification.
After the specified heat-treatment process, designated hardened surfaces can reach HRC 60–65. This hardness value applies to the required hardened areas rather than automatically describing the hardness of the entire component.
Material and heat-treatment requirements should be confirmed against the relevant drawing, order specification or customer requirement before production.

The production batch shown here consists of No. 7 triple-rib one-piece forged valve body blanks manufactured by FH Petroleum for Baoji Oilfield Machinery (BOMCO) applications. FH Petroleum is the sole supplier of this specific valve body product/configuration to BOMCO.
Their unfinished surfaces and retained machining allowance distinguish them from completed valve bodies.
Partially machined components are visible separately on the right side of the workshop. Together, the two groups show different manufacturing stages within the same production environment.
After initial machining, valve bodies may already show finished surfaces on the stem or outer profile while other areas still retain a rougher appearance.
At this stage, the components have not yet become complete valve assemblies. No replaceable sealing inserts are installed, and further processing or inspection may still be required.

The photograph demonstrates the ability to organize a large production quantity through the intermediate manufacturing stages. It should be understood as a batch of semi-finished valve bodies rather than finished valve assemblies.
Producing one acceptable component and maintaining the same requirements across a repeat order are different manufacturing challenges.
Batch manufacturing requires control of material, machining references, critical dimensions and production status throughout the order. Components at different stages must also remain identifiable before final inspection and delivery.

The valve seat is the stationary counterpart to the valve body and sealing insert. Its dimensions and mating geometry must correspond to the required valve configuration.
Valve seat production begins with prepared blanks. Before machining, the blanks retain additional material that will later be removed to create the specified external dimensions, internal profile and mating surfaces.

Manufacturing requirements for the seats are determined by the applicable drawing and matching valve specification. The photographed blanks should therefore not be used to claim a particular finished size, material grade or completed surface condition unless those details are confirmed separately.
FH Petroleum supplies replaceable sealing inserts for mud pump valve assemblies. Available material options include NBR, CPU and TPU, while insert material, color, configuration, dimensions and other requirements can be customized according to the confirmed valve design and customer specification.
Insert colors should not automatically be used to infer hardness, temperature resistance or compatibility with a particular drilling fluid. These characteristics must be confirmed from the actual material specification.

Actual valve service life depends on operating conditions, drilling fluid properties, pump condition, maintenance practices and other field variables. The 400+ hour figure therefore represents documented practical application experience for the corresponding product rather than a guaranteed service-life value for every operating condition.
Mud pump fleets may contain equipment from different manufacturers, production periods and component configurations. A pump model name alone may not always provide enough information to identify the required valve and seat.
